The ICTP is developed within UNIDO’s Energy Efficiency for Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa (EELA) Program and implemented in close cooperation with the regional centres of excellence: the East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE), the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), and the SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE). It is supported by technical partners such as the Swedish Energy Agency and Glofin Advisory AB, and funded by the Government of Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)
To ensure that the technologies promoted through the ICTP genuinely respond to industrial needs and remain aligned with national and regional strategies for energy and sustainable industrial development, the platform operates under a two-arm governance model:
- Technical Working Groups (TWGs) bring together key national technical institutions to advise industries on available opportunities, applicable standards, and the services offered by the ICTP.
- The Advisory Board provides strategic policy guidance—covering standards, national targets, and regulatory frameworks—to ensure that ICTP activities remain coherent with government priorities.
Both bodies are composed of representatives from all relevant stakeholders and partners. They meet regularly to assess the evolving needs of beneficiaries, exchange information on emerging industrial trends and innovative technologies, and guarantee that the ICTP remains current, responsive, and valuable to its users.
